Born in Sri Lanka
I was born in Sri Lanka when the bombs started. The civil war between the Singhalese and Tamils was escalating. We were lucky enough to flee.
I was born of a love between a Singhalese and Tamil. I know what it is to be part of two worlds and navigate the connections between.
Grew up in Britain
We were welcomed into a country and a people. I grew up in Wales and the love we were shown endures. I grew up in a country, culture, language and history not my own, but were treated as one of their own. I am a proud daughter of Wales and it is where my love of the hills is founded.
Living on Vancouver Island
We chose to come here to Canada as a family. To lay down roots in the most majestic country I know. This is where I choose to raise my young family and grow old. The promise of Canada and all we can be together in our richness, diversity and kindness is what keeps me here and us connected.
I have been a physician for over 20 years and worked in many fields and countries, having lived and travelled in over 55 countries. I am currently doing a Masters in Public Health at UBC as part of a Public Health physician training programme.
